Red wines from DO Toro aged six months or less have been recognised as the best out of any Denomination of Origin in Spain and Portugal by the VinDuero-VinDouro awards 2019.
This is a new category and marks a shift in the focus of the event towards creating a “virtual wine map” of the Iberian territory; celebrating the work of wineries, wines and Denominations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications from across the peninsula.

A spokesperson for the Regulatory Council for DO Toro said it was, "a great reward for our wineries and winegrowers who strive to ensure that the quality of the wines remains a guarantee of the Denomination of Origin."
Whilst competition is fierce between regional producers, the awards themselves are heavily international, drawing on the skills of 60 expert tasters from three continents.
